The new Ford GT is not on the market, yet. However, a privileged number of 250 people can start ordering the car starting from next month. The only thing is that the future owners must meet some criteria.
The order book of the new Ford GT will open next month, but being able to pay $400,000 for it is not enough. Ford has used a Ferrari trick. The first 250 Ford GT’s will be divided between customers that meet the following requirements.
First of all, Ford wants to know ( ‘wants to know’ ) if the buyer has any social media presence. Just having 100 followers on your non-active Twitter account is actually not enough; you be really active and really known in the automotive world on the internet. Tim Burton, A.K.A. is Shmee150, is for example an excellent buyer.
Secondly, Ford will only sell the car if the person has a “Ford history”. Wether a Ford history also applies to you when you’ve owned a Ford Ka is not known. We do know, however, that owners – or ex-owners – of an older Ford GT model will have a better chance in becoming a future owner.
Thirdly, the owner of the new Ford GT will have to sign a contract with Ford. This contract makes sure that the owner actually drives the car and doesn’t sell it after one month or year of not driving the car. Vice president product development of Ford, Raj Nair says “There’s a loyal following to the car, we want to prioritize people who are going to care about the car, keep the car and drive the car.” – source: Detroit News.
Official specifications are not released, but we now know that a 3.5 Liter V6Biturbo will be used. The car produces 600 hp and 700 Nm of torque. The price tag of the new Ford GT start at $400,000 (approximately €367,000).
